Chaperone Policy

Sometimes it is necessary for health care professionals to perform intimate examinations.

A chaperone is an impartial observer present during an intimate examination of a patient. Intimate examinations are likely to include examinations of breasts, genitalia and rectum, but could also include any examination where it is necessary to touch, examine intimate
parts of the patient’s body digitally, or even be close to the patient.

If you would prefer a chaperone to be present, please ask the health professional you are seeing or at Reception.

There may be occasions when your health professional considers this advisable and will make the necessary arrangements for you.

It may be necessary to book a separate appointment for this when a chaperone is available.
