Our Nurses

Lynne Birch, Amy Gane and Iman Suleman are the Practice Nurses in attendance at various times, who can provide for a range of services, including dressings, injections, (including holiday vaccinations), immunisations, postnatal advice, coil removals, smears and general health advice. In addition, the Practice Nurses are responsible for managing many chronic disease clinics, such as Asthma, Diabetes and Hypertension.

Nicole Green has recently changed roles from a Practice Nurse to be our Enhanced Diabetes Nurse who will be available at the surgery on a Monday predominantly for Diabetes related specialist care.

Our Healthcare Assistants

We have Anita Forrest, our very experienced Health Care Assistant who is available for blood pressure checks, phlebotomy, smoking cessation advice, NHS Health checks, Pre-diabetes appointments, ear syringing, some vaccinations and ECG’s.

Our Phlebotomists

Tina Remington is our specialist phlebotomist available before 3:45pm to take blood tests. We cannot offer blood tests after this time, due to the collection of samples at 4:00pm.

Phlebotomy is the process of taking blood samples from patients, to aid doctors in their investigations and diagnosis. Some bruising can be expected following a blood test.

To book a blood test for a child aged under 16, call 0300 3000 007. Their appointment will be offered at another healthcare provider within Leicestershire.

We also perform blood tests on behalf of hospitals or other NHS healthcare providers. You will be asked for your NHS blood form on these occasions at your appointment.

If you have your own hospital form, which we can print for you if necessary, you can also attend the following hospitals for a blood test. You cannot attend UHL if it is your GP requesting the blood test, unless you make an appointment on 0300 303 1563.

Hospital Opening Times Last Patient accepted
Glenfield Hospital Monday to Friday 8am till 5pm 4:50pm

Our Reception Team

Our Reception staff are your first point of contact with the surgery, either at the desk or on the telephone. We have a team of 9 friendly receptionists, led by Sam Gold, Reception Supervisor. They will rotate their shifts and role positions within Reception. They have a difficult job to do, especially at busy times, so your patience is always welcomed. They have been trained to ask particular questions to assist us in determining who it is you need to see, so please be prepared to give them some details.

Our Administration Team

We employ a team of 4 experienced administration staff, who are responsible for clinical correspondence, referral processing, chronic disease appointment invitations, private or insurance work and ensuring the smooth day to day administration and clerical aspects of the practice. Whilst they work predominantly behind the scenes, their responsibilities are vast and also extremely important in the daily background workload of the whole practice.

GP Registrars

As we are a Training Practice, we will regularly have GP registrars on site. A GP registrar is a qualified Doctor who is furthering their training within the field of general practice, preparing for a career as a general practitioner. If you’re seen by a GP registrar, you’re still being seen by a qualified doctor, just one that hasn’t fully completed their GP training yet.

All of our usual GP’s have undertaken the GP clinical supervisor course.

Our Community Nurses

The Community Nursing Team specialise in taking care of housebound patients. They receive referrals from local hospitals and Doctors. We often use the Acute Visiting Service to see housebound patients.

The team are not employed by Greengate Medical Centre.

Our Community Midwives

The Midwives and GPs, in conjunction with the hospital maternity services, offer a full antenatal service.

Please note that the midwives who hold clinics at the surgery are not directly employed by Greengate Medical Centre.

Our Health Visitors

A Health Visitor is a qualified nurse who has taken further training to obtain the Health Visitor Qualification. They are notified of all births and offer help and advice to parents. We do not have a Health Visitor on site.
